Dr. Stefanie Shore practices sedation dentistry in Carmichael. She understands that patients may struggle with dental anxiety. After all, an astonishing number of adults regularly avoid essential dental care because of their fears. Unfortunately, by avoiding regular exams, cleanings and recommended dental treatment, these same patients expose themselves to the risk of more severe dental conditions. They may endure pain and often have more extensive and expensive treatment needs. They might even lose some non-restorable teeth due to lack of regular care. With sedation dentistry, you can have dental treatment in complete comfort and you will likely remember very little about the visit. Most fearful patients especially like that!
As your dentist in Carmichael, we want you to come twice a twice a year, for a cleaning and exam. This allows us to find decay early, deal with it quickly, and ensure you don’t live with any dental pain or problems. As a sedation dentist, Dr. Shore is happy to discuss your fears and concerns and determine if sedation dentistry would benefit you.
Sedation in our office is done using a very simple oral sedation method with a prescription medication (pill) you take before you come for treatment. Dr. Shore follows the DOCS (Dental Oral Conscious Sedation) protocols that she learned during her extensive training. For your safety, you will be monitored with a blood pressure cuff and pulse oximeter throughout treatment. Naturally, you will need someone to drive you to and from the appointment. Most patients sleep a good portion of the day after sedation dentistry and have little or no post-operative discomfort.
Something we like to point out is that many patients soon feel much lower levels of dental anxiety, or even cease to experience it at all, after just one or two treatments using this approach. This is because it creates a sense of calm, relaxation and total comfort throughout the treatment, The patient who might usually panic over even a cleaning may suddenly start to think of visits to our office as one of the more relaxing things they do. Soon, sedation may be unnecessary because they feel no anxiety at all!
